Counseling is a collaborative process to explore strengths,
promote awareness and construct meaning within your unique life experience. My
theoretical approach is that of existentialism as define by Yalom and
Frankl. I believe that inner conflicts
arise from the dissonance created between what is believed and the experience
of existence. I approach therapy from a
Mindfulness perspective; promoting awareness in a non-judgmental manner. These approaches are both empirically sound and well
documented effective therapies. However,
if you ever are uncomfortable or unsatisfied with any aspect of the therapeutic
process, it is important to discuss with me in order to create other options to
serve you more optimally.
Confidentiality is one of the cornerstones of the therapeutic relationship. Generally, I will not share anything you share with me. Your privacy and information is protected by North Carolina State law, as well as my profession’s ethical code. However, there are a few circumstances in which confidentiality can be breeched, both ethically and/or legally (1) when I believe you intend to harm yourself or another person; and, (2) when I believe a child or elder person has been or will be abused or neglected. In rare circumstances Professional Counselors can be ordered by a judge to release information. Outside of those circumstances, everything you say is private and will not be shared without a full release form signed by you.
