Meditation is an effective tool, and intervention for all types of stress and pain. Each type of meditation produces a slightly varied result, yet, end outcomes most often include a sense of calm clarity. Meditation has several origins, yet is not directly linked to any religion or spirituality. It does, however, allow the deepening of consciousness and a particular connectedness to emerge.

- Mindfulness- Developed out of Buddhist tradition of "compassion and letting go." Created for the reduction of stress, anxiety, and pain, by Jon Kabt-Zinn and the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Clinic. The primary point of focus in Mindfulness, is the breath. As thoughts, feelings and sensations occur, they are acknowledged and allowed to move through consciousness free from judgement, and attachment.
- Transcendental- Developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi from the Vedic tradition to create a deeper connection to higher consciousness and to facilitate enlightenment. The focal point in Transcendental Meditation is a mental mantra. The mantra propels focus deeper into the unconscious mind, displaying results reflecting: clearer thinking, reduced cardiovascular issues, increased longevity, decreased anxiety, and decrease in pain symptoms.
- Guided Imagery- Gained acclaimed among alternative medicine practitioners, and psychotherapist, and is loosely connected to Ericksonian Hypnosis. The focus in imagery is varied. It can be the breath, a beach, a pond, or anything that is relaxing to the client.
